The Ironwood newspaper had an important role in reporting the story of the Don Miller case. Unfortunately, they did not do a very good job. They wrote a hugely inaccurate article with an offensive and de-humanizing photo. It was followed up by an inaccurate opinion piece with, at best, some amateurish conclusions. There were no professional Journalists covering the case.
There are now.
Showing up at the Court House on the day of sentencing, and interviewing a few key
Participants with no fact checking or follow up is not Journalism. Ignoring that fact that innocent people being found guilty is certainly not unheard of in our Judicial System. So to conclude that because a person does not show remorse makes them an animal, as opposed to considering that they may possibly be innocent is certainly not using Journalistic intuition.
Of course, the Journalistic lack of investigation was on par with Law Enforcement and Prosecution.
-Don Miller was not found guilty of 1st degree sexual assault for the allegation on the 8th
-Nowhere was it stated the she was "choked"
-It was not alleged that on the early morning of the 19th, that he "dragged her into the house by her hair, and raped her".
Different times and different people at the paper, I would assume.
Never the less, it's bad enough that Dons story was never investigated and reported.
They couldn't even get her story right.
Dons story is being investigated and reported now.
As a footnote.......
What sort of an attitude would you have, and what kind of a gesture would you make if you were just given 42 years for something you didn't do?
Thats Journalistic intuition.
